Borax Flea Control

Author: Alfred Ngoasheng

Reading the current article top to bottom will give you an excellent understanding of this topic.

Borax flea control is a good way to help take out a flea infestation once it has started. By Using a mixture of borax and water on your carpets and letting it soak, then thoroughly cleansing your carpets after it has had time to set, you can defeat fleas in a fairly short period of time. Click Here

However, there are some downsides to Borax flea control that you should keep in mind. First and foremost, Borax is a toxic chemical that should be treated with respect. If you have children, you will want to be wary about how you treat your carpets with Borax. A child that likes to play on carpets, or is prone to putting their fingers in their mouth, should be kept from suite being treated from Borax. If it is not possible to keep a child from the room, Borax should not be used.

When using a Borax flea control regime, you will want to do some other things to make certain that the treatment is being as effective as possible. While Borax is very effective at the removal of fleas, it will only help control an infestation when used in conjunction with other remedies. These can be natural or unreal remedies. Common ones used with Borax include Pennyroyal, Citronella, Lemongrass, Cedar and flea foggers.

For long term use, Borax flea control can be effective, but dangerous. You should be cautious about Using Borax for a long period of time, as it is a chemical, and it can be harmful. If you need a long term solution, but still want to use Borax, there are several things you can do. First, you can mix your Borax treatments with Advantage, Front Line or similar products. This allows you to use your pet as a flea killer, and quicken the process of killing fleas by Using Borax. The combination of these two treatments can be highly effective at preventing fleas from being able to breed.

When you use Borax flea control with pet medications, you need to make certain you vacuum your carpets frequently, as well as take care to entirely get rid of the Borax when you are not actively treating your carpet with it. Vacuuming can help remove flea larvae, as well as keep safe levels of chemicals in the carpeting. Once you vacuum, you should make certain to throw away of the vacuum bag immediately, as larvae may still be able to hatch inside of them. Click Here

The key to Borax flea control is to never miss a scheduled time to dose your carpets. Consistency is key to making certain the infestation is removed and prevented from occurring again.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What are the health risks of wearing cat flea collars on ankles?
I sometimes work in the crawl spaces under houses where ferrel cats live, This means lots of jumping biting black pepper -better known as sand fleas(cat fleas)! A lot of the other guys that do my same job wear a cat flea collars around each ankle. Can this lead to any health problems if worn for extended lengths of time? I know some of the solders in Iraq and Afghanistan do the same thing.

    • ANSWER:
I'd wear pants and have the collars on the outside of the pants, imho.
Cats have fur as a barrier to the collars, so I think the safest thing would be to not let it actually touch your skin all the time.
I doubt there have been any studies about this situation, but it should be done if people are using them like this. Have you considered contacting the manufact. of the collars to find out if there are any?

I know exactly what you mean about considering "off label" use of products. I am on treatment for Lyme disease right now and I am looking at my dog's frontline and thinking...hmmmm..... lol!

  2. QUESTION:
How can I tell the difference between a human flea and a cat flea?
My cat has fleas which I keep treating but they bite me too .I am beggining to worry about whether they are cat fleas , human fleas or both.I have treat him with Tablets and monthly drops and flea sprayed human bedding and carpets. Can I tell by looking whether they are human or cat fleas?

    • ANSWER:
You can, by looking at them under a microscope.

However if your cat has fleas, these are the fleas that are biting you. You need to treat the cat with a proper veterinary flea treatment, stuff bought from the supermarkets won't work. To get rid of the fleas in your house you need something like Acclaim - again, supermarkets don't sell anything that's likely to be effective.

You need to treat the cat. Then vacuum your house thoroughly, everywhere the cat has been, as often as you can. After one of the vacuumings, spray the proper flea killer everywhere. You will also need to wash anything that can be washed.

If the house isn't treated properly, the fleas will just return to your cat.

Send me a message if you need any more info.

  3. QUESTION:
How soon after giving your cat flea drops can you give it a bath?
Ok, my cat had recently gotten flea drops - yesterday and I need to give her a bath to get rid of all signs of fleas within three days. Any idea how soon I can bathe her after giving her flea drops, while the medicine is still effective at killing fleas?

    • ANSWER:
If you gave her the flea drops yesterday then today you can give her a bath, check the instructions on the flea drops packet.
Usually when I give my cats flea drops I wait a day or 2.
      Hope that helps :)

  4. QUESTION:
Is it safe to give a cat flea medicine the night before she gets spayed?
My local neuter commuter said that I needed to check my cat to make sure she has no fleas or ticks before her surgery. Of course, I found a flea.

Is it safe to give her any over-the-counter flea medicine right before her surgery?

It took 3 months or more for me to get this appointment... I do not want to wait for another one...
By the way, her appointment is in 9 hours...

    • ANSWER:
Surgery or no surgery, those over the counter flea medications and collars should never be used - many of them are toxic and can kill your cat. They are ineffective also.

  5. QUESTION:
Can cat flea medications be used on small dogs?
I have a 5 pound puppy, and I've noticed a few fleas on him. Could I use the advantage medication which I already have for my cats on him? I know it's unsafe to use dog flea medications on cats, but would the cat meds be gentle enough for my little dog?

    • ANSWER:
Advantage is the same product for cats/kittens/dogs/puppies, the only difference is the size of the vial it comes in. There are some flea products like the over the counter ones and K9 Advantix that are for dogs only, but you know that as you've said. Just be sure to put the right dosage on him, he'd need the "kitten dose" with is for cats up to 9 pounds.

Taking Advantage Of A Real Estate Bird Dog

Author: Stefan Hyross

In real estate terminology, a bird dog is just what it sounds like, namely a person who is good at finding real estate deals for investors and has the right expertise to negotiate a profitable resale. Undoubtedly, a productive real estate bird dog can assist an investor flip a property rapidly so that everybody concerned makes a substantial sum of cash in a fairly short amount of time. Real estate bird dogs help potential buyers to flip homes quickly in such a way that everyone concerned can make a honest profit. Like any high-priced transaction, however, investors have to be shrewd when working with bird dogs, being aware that they can be opportunistic and take advantage of uninformed purchasers who are not prepared to do the homework on their own to ensure a prosperous closure on property.

Real estate bird dogs come in a lot of disciplines, from experienced providers who have access to insider data to long-term neighborhood residents, supply individuals and handymen who have paid attention to the real estate marketplace and have accumulated a community of local connections. There are also virtual real estate bird dogs who can use the power of the Internet to sift through current available homes and focus on possible homes that they can go investigate on the behalf of potential purchasers. A profitable real estate bird dog can find worthy investment possibilities regardless of whether the current marketplace is hot or bad due to the fact that their knowledge of how to make the house payoff regardless of the prevailing economic conditions. If a person is determined to find houses for sale in Toronto then there will be good properties to be had.

A good bird dog will wish to be paid when he (or she) identifies a good real estate investment so that they can put the house under contract and hire a contractor to fix it up for resale with the profits heading to the buyer. A serious investor must be able to figure the cost of a bird dog into the calculations that include the cost of property, repairs, taxes, any related filing fees and the average days on the market (DOM) and weigh these against the expected selling price. As Vaughan Ontario homes for sale may turn over quickly your bird dog may want a larger fee. The referral costs for bird dogs ordinarily runs about 0 and 00, depending upon the sum of responsibility they take on and their talent for discovering properties that can quickly be resold for a profit.

Clever investors know that simply getting a reputable real estate bird dog does not necessarily mean that they are not nonetheless responsible for maintaining a handle on the housing transaction and they make it a point to remain aware of all aspects of the reconstruction work, building permit processes, mortgage structures and liens that can have an effect on the profit outcome. Also keep in mind that if you are looking into Markham real estate not all communities will retain the same value even though the properties are virtually identical. There are quite a few issues that can hamper even the very best intentioned bird dogs, and open communication is the best way to ensure that property transactions don't get bogged down and wind up turning into a waste of time and money. The good buyer will deal with any real estate venture like a second job and do the work that it takes to get a good sound agreement in place so that they can get a hold of the type of funds that they will require from the financial institution to purchase the house, make the repairs and market it correctly.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Can Advantage for dogs be used on cats if they are in the same weight range?
From what I can determine, the ingredients are the same for dogs in 11-20 lb. range as cats over 9 lbs. Have leftover dog Advantage and it's expensive, so seems a shame to waste.

    • ANSWER:
I wouldn't..........they make the different products for a reason.....and it's not just to sell more product. Cats and dogs are different, in the way they metabolize things. CALL your vet and ASK, if you want to do this, but if it were MY cat, I'd get the product that was formulated FOR CATS......not dogs.

Hope you CALL your vet and get HIS opinion BEFORE you do anything to your cat.......Good luck.

  2. QUESTION:
Can I double the dosage of advantage for larger dogs?
My friend gave me her small dogs advantage for fleas. It is for dogs 10lbs and under. My dog is 20lbs. Can I just use two tubes instead of the one for my dog since its double the size?

    • ANSWER:
No- the active ingredient is at a certain strength. Doubling the amount applied will not give the same results as using the proper application.

  3. QUESTION:
Is there a difference between Advantage flea control for dogs and for cats?
I'm trying to find the cheapest Advantage for my kitties and ebay has advertised a wholesale amount of advantage that you measure out and administer your self. The ad says it is for cats but the picture that is listed says its for dogs.

I'm wondering if the chemical composition or concentration of Advantage for cats compared to Advantage for dogs is any different?

    • ANSWER:
Most dog treatments are toxic to cats - Don't risk it!

Many vets have advised against most dog flea treatments if there are even cats in the same house thats how toxic they can be!

  4. QUESTION:
Can I use Advantage for dogs on my cats too?
What is the best, Frontline, Advantage or K9 Advantage.

I have 1 dog (chihuahua) and 2 cats.

Could i just get some flea medicine for dogs and still use them on my cats?

And to save a little bit more money, could i get flea meds for dogs 21-55lbs and divide it up for my 3 pets?

    • ANSWER:
I actually have and am doing this with the Advantage under the direction of my vet.

It can be done, but I STRONGLY advise you to discuss this with your vet and see what he recommends as far as dosage.

The biggest caution I know of is not to use Advantix, because it is highly toxic to cats.

  5. QUESTION:
using Advantage topical flea killer for dogs on cats?
I use Advantage on my adult cat but my dad complains that it is too expensive so he wants to use the Advantage for dogs that are over 55 lbs because it comes with so much more for the same price. I would only put a few drops of the tube a month on my cat and safe the rest. Has anyone ever done this. I just don't want to get my cat sick but it says the have the same amount of the main ingredient?

    • ANSWER:
Yes, I buy the 55 lb dog size on eBay and dose out out based on my cats' individual weights. It is the exact same formula, just dosed by weight. If you need to know:

      Cat -9 lbs, 4 ml
      Cat 9+ lbs 8 ml

No problem. Been doing it for years that way.

Is Your Cat Scratching Up all your nice Furniture?

Tips before you Buy a Cat Scratching Tree Or Cat Furniture!

First of all, when thinking of buying a cat scratching tree, you should determine which cat scratching tree would be best for your cat.

This all depends on your cats size, your cats climbing abilities and your cats age.

What size cat scratching tree is good for kittens? What is better for cats? Huge Cat scratching trees or small cat scratching trees? For kittens, I recommend you to buy a small, wide cat scratching tree, since most little cats (especially kittens) are careless and jumpy and can easily fall of a tall cat scratching tree and get hurt.

Make sure when buying a kitten scratching tree, that your cat tree doesn't have narrow, high ledges that the kittens can fall off... Therefore, I recommend to buy a great, fun, wide scratching tree for kittens and cats that is safe and provides lots of entertainment!

How will the Cat scratching tree entertain my Cats and Kittens?

By playing, jumping and scratching cats and kittens have a GREAT time on cat scratching trees.

Not only do cats ENJOY to be high up on a tree, (like in nature) but they also enjoy the fun of climbing up a cat scratching tree, scratching up the cat scratching tree and playing catch-me if you have 2 or more cats.

For almost all cats, (especially kittens) it is recommended to have many hanging mice and cat toys on the cat tree, so that especially the young kittens will get loads of entertainment, since they often get bored and restless.

If you have a BIG cat, you might want to get her/him a large cat scratching tree so that she will have plenty of room to climb and scratch and be able to exercise him/herself on the cat scratching tree.

You don't want a fat cat do you?

For older, lazier cats, a climbing tree with more room, more ledges for them to hang of and sleep on and more places to scratch.

What Color Cat Scratching Tree Matches My home best?

When getting a cat scratching tree, you can mostly choose what color you want it in too.

Try choosing a color that will best match your house.
If your walls and furniture are light, then you can take a lighter cat scratching tree.

However if your walls and chairs are dark wood, you might want to choose a dark cat tree.

WARNING: Never buy a cat scratching tree that doesn't have a cover/material over the ledges.

This means that there is no material covering the wood. This is cheaper but worse and dangerous for your cat since splinters can get into it's paws and injure it! Also, a cat tree without any covering material is ugly, plain and unpleasant for your cat to sit on.
Therefore, buy a good cat scratching tree that has a material covering to it!

Here's a recommended site for cheap cat scratching trees.

Flea Medication

 ... Plus Flea Medication

Comfortis - Flea Control and Treatment Medication

Author: Sam Nichols

People all over the world say it is a comforting experience when they show affection towards their pet. Many studies conducted have proved this to be true. But, surely, you would agree that it is a bit difficult to bring ourselves to tolerate seeing our pet scratching his fur all the time because of the itchiness brought about by fleas. It is an extremely uncomfortable sight for you, and more so, for your pet.

Because of man's love for pets, science has paved the way for the manufacture of flea-control products. There are many varieties available such as topical solutions and ointments, flea tablets, and even flea bombs.

According to popular belief, these products work more effectively when used in combination. As an example, when a dog prefers to play in wet areas like the pool or the beach, topical products may not render its effectiveness because the drug it contains can be washed away. In this case, your dog will need to be administered with an oral drug. Another example would be the use of flea bombs. Now these types of products are indeed effective, but only to a certain extent. Flea bombs work by killing fleas found in the house only, but as soon as your dog or cat steps outside, he will no longer be protected. In these cases, ointments can be of great help.

A breakthrough in flea control and treatment would be a drug called Comfortis, a product of Eli Lilly and Co. This is a chewable pill, the first of its kind, and interestingly enough, it tastes like beef. This drug has been given the green light by the US FDA.

So you might want to ask, why use Comfortis? Here are the reasons:

1. It tastes great. No, we have not tried it, but our dogs certainly love it. You do not need to force your dog to eat it- you simply mix it with his beef-flavored meal.

2. It is safe. In fact, puppies fourteen weeks and older can already take it. Take note however that this has not been cleared for kitty use yet. Moreover, it has been considered a 'reduced-risk pesticide' which means that though it is extremely toxic to the little critters, it is safe for your dog.

3. It is convenient. No need for you to keep your dog isolated during treatment. You can play with him even after medication has been given.

4. It is long lasting. Comfortis' efficacy lasts for 30 days, unlike other flea pills which can work only for a few days. About half an hour after this pill has been ingested, it will immediately take action on killing fleas that are feeding on your pet's blood. Studies show that because of its ingredient called Spinosad, it can kill 100% of fleas that are living in a dog's fur.

Veterinarians recommend this drug for dogs having skin problems or sensitivities because it does not cause any allergic reactions. Though like any other flea control product, Comfortis is not a stand-alone solution, however, experts agree that this is without doubt the most recommended pill to treat your dog's flea problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
    Flea medication?
I am about to buy my little Boston some flea medication. I usually use Frontline Plus but I'm wondering if there is anything else out there that is better?

    • ANSWER:
nope - Frontline Pus is the safest and the most effective.

  2. QUESTION:
    flea medication ?
is there a store online i can buy
flea medicine for kittens ? thanks

    • ANSWER:
Don't use Revolution on kittens. Unlike Advantage and Frontline, which stay on the surface of the skin, Revolution goes into the animal's system, so it is possible to give a serious overdose to a small animal.

Advantage and Frontline can be used on kittens. If they are younger than 8 weeks, or weigh less than two pounds, have the vet calibrate a dose for them.

Where I work we are finding that Frontline is becoming less effective against fleas. Fleas are becoming resistant to it. We now suggest Advantage for cats.

Don't use any flea medicine that you can buy in a grocery or pet store on cats. They contain ingredients that can harm a cat and kill a kitten.

  3. QUESTION:
What is the best flea medication for two 8 week old kittens?
Tomorrow im getting two 8 week old kittens. They are bred from a female calico and a unknown father.I need to know how to care for them the best
    Like flea medication,flea shampoo,vitamins,litter,food,ETC.

    Much appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
The best and safest flea products come from your vet, but Frontline also works well too (available at pet stores). Do not use any of the other brands like Hartz, Sargents, Zodiac - they all contain ingredients that cause seizures and death in adult cats, and can be lethal in kittens. The little bit extra that Frontline costs is well worth it - a few dollars may save you hundreds of dollars by avoiding a trip to the emergency room.

Vitamins aren't necessary if you're feeding your cats a healthy diet. While you're at the pet store getting your Frontline take a look at all of your food options. Proper nutrition is an investment - it avoids health problems later on in life! Nature designed cats to be obligate carnivores - that means that they need to eat meat, and have very little use for grains. Avoid foods with corn of any kind, and avoid those that have any grain as the first ingredient. Also avoid by-products. This isn't meat, it's the scrap from the slaughterhouse industry and is all the junk that has been deemed unfit for human consumption. Beaks, hides, tendons, intestines, diseased and spoiled meat - surely not what you want to be feeding your babies! Read the ingredients on the packaging - price alone isn't a guidline to quality. At the budget end, look at foods like Nutro and Petsmart's Authority brand. They don't cost much more than the ones you'll get at the grocery store, but are significantly higher in quality (and nutrition). At the upper end are foods like Wellness, Blue Buffalo, Natural Balance, and EVO. You will find something that will keep your kittens healthy and you can afford as well.

Get yourself some cardboard scratch boxes - kittens love them and you'll be well on your way to training them to scratch appropriately. At 8 weeks, they are also ready to be spayed/neutered and to get their first vaccines.

Enjoy your babies - they don't stay babies long!

  4. QUESTION:
How old can a puppy be to put flea medication on it?
What kind should I use. My puppy is 5 months old and has fleas. We are thinking about putting a flea collar on him. I have always heard a puppy has to be 6 months old to have flea medication on it.

    • ANSWER:
They make flea spot on for pups as young as 8 weeks old your dog is certainly old enough for a good spot on fela treatment like Frontline. just make sure you know your dogs weight and then find the approiate Frontline for your dog by his weight.

  5. QUESTION:
What is a good flea medication for dogs?
I have two dachshunds who are just over a year old. I have seen them scratching and saw a flea on one of them.

What is a good medication to kill and prevent fleas on my dogs?
Is this something I can buy in a store?

    Thanks for any helpful advice!

    • ANSWER:
I dont like using the flea products that you buy at the pet stores because they are full of chemicals that can actually cause liver damage to both you and your dogs. Instead I chose to use a herbal formula that is called Canine Target Spray for Fleas: http://www.petwellbeing.com/products/dog-fleas

Capstar

CAPBLUE24 - Capstar for Cats ...

Learn How to Feed Your Dog Capstar

Author: BLAKE APICKS

One of the best things about Capstar flea treatments are that they allow your dog to get relief quickly, typically within six to eight hours.  Since this flea treatment is a pill form you are going to want to consult your dog's veterinarian before you start the treatment.  You can purchase this product without any prescription but if your dog is on a special diet or on any other medications there could be a reaction so you will want to make sure that it is safe.

You might realize that it is going to be hard to get your dog to eat the Capstar pills as dogs do not like eating things that they have not had before.  There are many different things that you can try in order to help persuade your pet to be able to take the medication.  One of the easiest things and the first that you should try is hiding the pill in their food bowl.

This might work for getting your dog to take their Capstar as a lot of dogs do not look at what they are eating as they eat from their bowls.  You will need to check the bowl when your dog is done eating to make sure that the pill is not there. If the pill still remains then you are going to need to try something else like putting the pill into a treat that you are feeding to the dog.

If this is not working for you then you might find that you can just wrap the Capstar pill in a piece of meat.  Now if you still find that your dog spits out the pill you will want to use a special pill dispenser or your hand to place it in the back of their mouth on the tongue.  Then you must hold their mouth shut while the pill is being eaten.

Keep in mind that the last way should be a last result because you might end up getting bit while trying to feed your dog their Capstar.  You have to make sure that the capsule gets swallowed and is not stuck somewhere in the dog's mouth in order to make sure that it is going to work.  You will notice that your dog is happy and flea free in no time.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
    capstar...?
has any one used capstar for their dog or cat? what happened, did it work?

    • ANSWER:
I used it last year when i had a really bad flea problem. Within a half an hour after i gave to them they virtually had no fleas. That stuff works like magic until they are exposed to the area where the fleas are then they get more fleas again.

  2. QUESTION:
How does Capstar and Advantage work?
How do they kill fleas and other parasites without harming my pet? How is Advantage spread throughout my pets body by placing it on a small area on her back? How does Capstar work so quickly?

    • ANSWER:
      How it works
Use Advantage monthly to kill fleas within minutes. The active ingredient is imidacloprid, which acts on the nervous system of the flea to cause paralysis and subsequent death. Advantage stops biting fleas in three to five minutes and starts to kill adult fleas within an hour after application.1 Within 12 hours of application, 98-100 percent of fleas are dead. This is important because flea bites can lead to skin infections, cause discomfort for your pet, lead to allergic skin reactions, and can even transmit other disease-causing organisms, including tapeworms.
You won't need to use another flea control product. Advantage kills fleas before they lay eggs, so their life cycle is broken at multiple stages. It also kills flea larvae within 20 minutes of contact.1
Nitenpyram (CAPSTAR®) is a new oral treatment that effectively kills adult fleas. Nitenpyram belongs to the chemical class of drugs called neonicotinoids. Nitenpyram interferes with nerve transmission in the flea, but not the pet.

  3. QUESTION:
Do oral flea treatments like Capstar have any residual, lingering toxicity after being administered?
After a dog is administered Capstar, or any other oral flea treatment, does any residual toxicity from the pesticide linger on the dog's coat, in its breath, etc? If so, for how long? The vet gave my dogs an oral flea treatment (don't know which) while they were there when I was on vacation, just before I picked them up. As such, I'm now hesitant to let them inside the house, fearing that the pesticides might abrade off their fur and into the furniture, or onto my skin. Is this possible?

    • ANSWER:
Hi there again... oral flea treatments are absorbed within the bloodstream therefore no residue is present externally.

  4. QUESTION:
How to use Frontline and Capstar pill Together?
Last month we applied Frontline Plus on my cat. And this month is her other application but ive been hearing about something witch can be used with Frontline called the Capstar pill witch is a daily pill? So i was wondering how exactly is it used? Do i apply Frontline today and give her the pill through out the 30 day's while on Frontline? Or only the day in witch i apply frontline? I want to make sure and not end up poising my cat.

    • ANSWER:
You use both at the same time. Capstar works really fast and kills fleas within 24 hours. So it knocks the fleas off right away, while the Frontline is kicking in. You only have to use it once, then the Frontline will take effect. Keep applying Frontline once a month and you won't need to ever use Capstar again.

Since the Capstar has no way to prevent fleas from coming back right away, it's not an effective treatment by itself.

  5. QUESTION:
