All cat owners will know that there are times when the cat will nip at you. Cat bites can causing anything from a small gash to an open wound. it is crucial to know not only what can result from a cat bite but how to treat cat bites to prevent any diseases from spreading to us.

The Reasons Why a Cat Would Bite a Human

In general, cats bite people for one or two reasons. First of all, you may have been playing too rough with your frisky feline, which causes your cat to respond with a bite. Additionally, cats may bite is if they are upset about something you have done or just upset in general. Cats are creatures that like their own space and they may act out by giving someone in their area a slight nip or worse.

Treatment of Cat Bites

You could treat cat bites by washing the cut with soap, applying antiseptic cream and pasting a plaster over the wound. This will ensure that the wound is clean and free from bacteria.

What is the Cat Scratch Disease?

A bite or scratch from a cat may lead to a more serious medical condition known as the cat scratch disease. The cat scratch disease is a bacterial infection caused by a cat's bite or scratch. It can also be caused when a cat licks an open wound. Cats get the bacteria from fleas, and transmit it to humans via their saliva Cat scratch disease in cats does not harm the cat itself but provides complications for the person bitten, scratched, or licked.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
can cat fleas transmit on humans and take them home with you?
I visited a friend that has a cat with fleas. I saw the fleas all in my clothes. now im scared that i brought them home with me. i have no pets. so what can i do to get rid of them?

    • ANSWER:
Definetly! If you have them, buy a flea bomb. Follow the directions on the package.

  2. QUESTION:
can humans catch anything from cat fleas?
cos my cat has had fleasand i felt them on me too cos she goes every where. i washed al the bedding and things at 60 degrees but wanna know could the cat fleas harm humans giving us worms like they do cats or is it only human fleas that harm us

    • ANSWER:
fleas can cause itching and allergic reactions. i think in most cases just discomfort. However, fleas are tapeworm carriers and the tapeworm can be transmitted to the host (human). that said most fleas don't have eggs that hatch into tapeworm and you would have to accidentally ingest a flea (or purposely, for that matter)

  3. QUESTION:
If a cat had fleas, can humans get them from close contact?
My cat has fleas, but can't get into the vet until Friday. I gave him a bath and picked quite a few fleas off of him, and then put a flea collar on him.
He sleeps in my bed with me everynight and I am worried that I may get the fleas too....is this possible?

    • ANSWER:
People can get bitten by fleas (in fact, it was a disease carried by fleas that caused the plague in the Middle Ages) - but don't worry too much about getting the plague! Some people are allergic to flea bites, though, so I wouldn't let the cat sleep in your bed until you get some flea medicine. Often pet stores such as PetSmart and PetSupermarket will sell good flea products. Advantage works the fastest although Frontline is good too. These pet stores are open on Sundays so you can get the medication early. If you bathe your cat again, though, you must use a soap free shampoo or it will strip the flea medicine off. The medicine works with the natural oils in your cat's skin and soap will dissolve the oils and take the Advantage off with it. Look on shampoo bottles and look for the phrase "soap-free" Good luck to you!

  4. QUESTION:
    Can cat fleas bite humans?
I usually treat my cat for fleas each month with Frontline spot on but last month I bought a cheaper flea spot on from the supermarket. I've since read online that these products often "don't work" (although why they are allowed to sell them in that case I don't know . . .)

I'm just concerned because our cat was asleep on our bed today and when I picked him up I saw what I'm sure was a flea crawling on the white duvet cover. Plus I've been feeling really itchy the last few days (probably thinking about fleas lol!) and I have a few small red spots on my leg. Could these be flea-bites? Do cat fleas bite humans?

Also, if the supermarket treatment "didn't work", would it be safe to give him a frontline or would this be over-dosing him with flea treatment? I gave him the supermarket treatment about 2 weeks ago.

I'm a bit concerned as I have a young toddler and obviously don't want fleas in the house for hygiene reasons . . .
OMG yuk I'm itching like mad now, lol! Thats the last time I'm using those crappy cheap spot ons. I've just found a red spot on my son's leg too.

I'm going to order some frontline online today.

    • ANSWER:
I would consult your vet. I would say to hold off. you are lucky that that product just didn't work, a lot of those products have been known to KILL people's animals. so you got off lucky.

  5. QUESTION:
Can cat and dog fleas infest humans?
My cat has fleas and i want to be absolutely positive that i wont have to do anything to my house if possible

Advantage Flea Medication ...

Flea Killing

Author: Alfred Ngoasheng

Why search further when you have found the perfect resource for all your answers. Continue reading in order to learn more about this topic.

Flea killing is something that needs to be done right away in the case of a developing infestation. As fleas are carriers of diseases, they can cause long term wellness consequences if they are not dealt with as soon as possible. In addition to this, flea bites can be exceedingly painful, causing several weeks of soreness and itching. As fleas are not highly picky about whom they bite, all of the members of your family are at stake from them. Click Here

Flea killing can be done in several ways. First, the fleas can be prevented from biting your pets through common anti-flea medications such as Advantage and Front Line. These medications are configured to help your pet cope with the bites they have gotten, and forbid future bites. As biting a pet who has been treated with these medications is deadly to the flea, it also works to control the number of fleas in your home.

Flea killing only through use of anti-flea medications is not suggested. As the fleas are already in your home, you will need to take some measures to make certain that the flea eggs are prevented from hatching as well as control the fleas that have not found your pets yet. This can be done through treatments of Borax soap, applications of Pennyroyal, Cedar chips or Citronella or through more aggressive means, such as a flea bomb or fogger.

If you decide to use a flea bomb or fogger as a flea killing method, you should keep in mind that these chemicals are toxic. When you use them, you should follow directions carefully. Protect floors and furniture that are at stake from the chemicals, take out all eating utensils and dishes from the room, and make certain young children and pets stay outside from the area that is being fogged. The process normally takes between three to five hours per room to complete. The benefit to this method is that the huge majority of fleas in the room that is treated should die, so long as you have made certain to seal all of the exits to the room. Like other animals, fleas will flee from an area with toxins, so you should make certain their routes of flying are cut off. The primary reason a flea fogging attempt fails is due to the fact that a fogger is used in a room too large for its capacity or there is a route of escape for the fleas.

If you are systematic in your attack to pest control, flea killing is easy and rather inexpensive. Once the fleas are gone, you should make certain that they are prevented from returning by dousing your pets with anti-flea medicine and using treatments as needed. Click Here

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Can I give my cat a small dosage of Advantage flea medication for dogs?
I took my dog to the vet today and they found a couple of fleas, I have a small dog so they gave me flea medication for dogs between 11kg and 25kg. The problem is i have a cat also but she does not have any fleas, So when I give my dog this medication I'm afraid there are going to jump off my dog and onto my cat so is it safe to give my cat a very small dosage of this medication to help prevent fleas?
    the medication is "Advantage 55"

    • ANSWER:
      nooooooooooooooooooo.

      NO!!

it could very easily kill your cat and deffo make it very ill!

  2. QUESTION:
Is advantage flea medication always effective?
My house had a big flea problem this summer. I bought advantage for my dog and put it on her today. Its been about 8 hours and she's still itching. Does it take more time to work? Can I put another dose on her or do I have to wait another month?

    • ANSWER:
The medication doesn't treat the bites she already has. It just repels more fleas from landing on her to bite her in the future. You have to give the existing bites time to heal.

Do NOT re-apply the medication any sooner than it says on the package. Overdoses of powerful chemicals can make your dog ill and might kill her.

  3. QUESTION:
My cat had fleas and I gave her the recommended dose of Advantage flea medication?
about two weeks ago but she still has fleas would it be harmful to give her another dose?

    • ANSWER:
The best thing to do is to follow the directions. If they are not clear about how often you can apply the medication, ask your vet. I'm sure he/she will know. These fleas are probably coming from the carpets or other animals in the house that are not being treated as well. The fleas will die once they bite your pet, but to prevent them from getting on your cat altogether, you need to get rid of ALL the fleas. You can use a flea bomb, which I heard is pretty effective, but it can also be dangerous. You have to keep all food and pets away. Your other option would be to vacuum the house like everyday and clean the carpets with a steam cleaner or something. Both ways are kinda a pain in the butt, however, it needs to get done to stop the flea cycle.

Good luck and I hope I could help! :)

  4. QUESTION:
What is the difference between regular Advantage flea medication and Advantage 18 (for cats)?

    • ANSWER:
Advantage 9/18 (depending on weight) just works for fleas. Advantage Multi covers fleas, worms, and ear mites and requires a prescription from your vet.

  5. QUESTION:
Is advantage flea medication for cats waterproof?
I put it on him and he went outside and it started raining. Now he is all wet. I'm wondering if it is waterproof because it didn't say in the box. Does anyone know if it is?

The Best Medicine for Dogs With Arthritis

Author: Paul Kramer

Have you noticed lately how your dog is getting a little enthusiastic doing the normal things he do everyday? Have you observed how reluctant he is to catch that stick you just threw? If you're very particular about your dog's health, you might be hearing some clicks in his joints as he walks. You might have observed that he's jumping a little lower this time and he sometimes moan as if he's suffering from excruciating pain. If so, then, there's a chance your buddy is suffering from arthritis. But as a dog lover as you are, you will immediately find a solution for it and sure enough, there is and it's Arthogen for dogs.

Just like humans, arthritis in dogs can come in many different types, osteoarthritis as being the most common.

For some ordinary people, this might sound so odd, so bizarre, so "overkill". A medicine for arthritis in dogs? But for an unofficial official dog lover like you or a lover of pets in general, this is one of the most appropriate things to do to show love and concern for these animals and the Humane Society will surely nod its head in approval.

So, what is osteoarthritis in what causes it? According to experts especially those caring veterinarians, when the cartilage in joints that act as buffers between bones deteriorates, it can be very painful for the dog.

This is usually the result of an injury to a limb. Also, the common cause of this dog's predicament are usually diseases of hip and elbow dysphasia and other bone problems of large and fast-growing dogs but little ones are not exempted. But because dogs, even little ones, tend to be hyperactive and always on the go, in general, dogs can be hapless victims of arthritis and other bone-related diseases or ailments.

In the U.S. alone, an estimated 20% of the total population of dogs suffers from arthritis, big or small, young or old. Luckily for these poor animals, the Humane Society, veterinarians and other concerned groups are doing what they can do save these pets from health problems.

So, what is the best remedy for arthritis in dogs? As what have said earlier, Arthogen can be the best option to eradicate arthritis from your beloved buddy. Arthogen is formulated scientifically to combat arthritis. It contains a complete, nutritious and highly effective solution that provide the best and necessary mineral and nutrients needed by your pet and they come in many flavors that you dog will surely love. But, is it the only remedy for these poor fellas? Are there any other solutions for easing or totally getting rid of arthritis in dogs? Yes, there may be other remedies for it but the best so far is Arthogen and it's the best choice that you're going to have.

In conclusion, when you see that your dog is limping, running slowly, always moaning of pains in the limbs, you can either give him some first aid which you may learn in the future or if you want to give him the best in all the world, give him Arthogen for dogs and he will give you an approving "woof!" for it.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What is the best flea medicine for cats?
Ok, so during the summer months where I live the fleas are EVERYWHERE. Last year we had to have our yard treated 3 times with pesticide to knock down the population. Giving two cats flea baths is NOT fun!

    • ANSWER:
There are three good, safe products. Revolution, Frontline (or Frontline Plus) and Advantage. All are sold through veterinarians and FosterSmith.com. You can also get Frontline and Advantage at Petsmart.

The nice thing about going through your vet is that they will sell you one dose at a time if you need it, which nobody else will do. If your cats go outside, Revolution is really great because it kills fleas, ticks, roundworms, and ear mites, too. Whatever you decide to use, use it every month without fail. I use Frontline Plus on my dog every month and my indoor cats have never had fleas.

Stay away from Hartz and other OTC products, which don't work and have been known to kill pets.

  2. QUESTION:
what is the best flea medicine for cats?
she has tons of fleas! the last two nights i gave her a bath, then went through her fur w/ tweezers and in 2 nights i've gotten 80 off her and she still has some. thanks!!
p.s- she only goes outside 2-3 times a moth for like 30 min. each time. if that!

    • ANSWER:
Oh my that sounds painful for you and for the cat. We use Frontline Plus in this household and get it in 6 doses at a time, which is a bit cheaper. One of our employees uses Advantage and loves it. You can certainly check out the options for chemicals by googling how to get rid of cat fleas. It's super important to deal with the fleas because of course you don't want fleas in your house and the fleas are how the cats can get parasites and that is no fun for anyone. They eat more with parasites and it's uncomfortable plus very gross to see the worms.

When we had new kittens and couldn't use the chemicals, we would put them in a shallow bowl of warm water and Dawn dishwashing liquid. After that the fleas would literally be jumping off so don't know if that helps your possible house infestation but definitely helped with the flea problem. If your cat goes outside though at all it would be best to have some kind of flea protection.

  3. QUESTION:
What is the best flea medicine for cats and were can i get it?
    Links would be nice

    • ANSWER:
      advantage works great

  4. QUESTION:
Which brand is the best flea medicine for cats?
    Frontline or advantage

    • ANSWER:
I use Frontline without any problems
& it works. No more fleas.

  5. QUESTION:
What is the best flea medicine for my indoor long haired cats?
I have two long haired cats that are only 2 years old and I have a cat that is 20 years old with arthritis, cataracts and does not liked to be touched on her body because I am sure she hurts from the arthritis. What is the best flea medicine for her and the two 2 years olds. Should it be different medications and can I have her shaved without it hurting her because she is unable to take care of her long fur anymore.

    • ANSWER:
The best flea medicine is the flea medicine you get from your vet, and it is well worth the trip. Time and again in Answers there are urgent questions from cat owners who have used a flea medication on their cats, the cat has somehow ingested it or they used the wrong kind (sometimes using dog flea meds), or they misapplied it, or used too much -- and the cat is deathly ill. A flea med is a pesticide or a repellant, cats lick themselves, and this can cause devastating problems.

You should take your animals to the vet, or at the very least, call the vet and see what he recommends and how much and where the meds are to be applied.

A cat can indeed be shaved, especially in the summer months, and this is a good solution for an older cat who has trouble grooming nether parts. It is possible the vet can do it, or a groomer. For winter, though, you probably know (but if you don't, here am I to save the day!) that there are heated pet beds. I have even seen one that is made something like a slipper -- there is the slipper bottom, and then the kind of dome-like pocket. The thing is heated, and the cat crawls into this little fluffy, heated cave. For an older, arthritic cat who must be shaved, this is a good way to keep snuggy warm when the world isn't.

The dosage for 1 large cat is exactly twice what each dog needs, so I use a syringe (no needle) to measure the exact dosage for each dog. This saves me each time I need more Advantage because I can split it in two for each dog.

Further, the dosage for a cat is much smaller than what would be required for your 60 pound dog. You can use the cat Advantage on her but it will be a weak dosage. It may or may not rid her completely of fleas, but it will not harm her either.

  5. QUESTION:
Can I use Bayer Advantage flea treatment for dogs on my cats?
I have a yellow lab who has fleas. I treated her with Advantage 100. Can I use the same stuff on my cats if I use a lot less? Is it the same ingredients?

    • ANSWER:
Never, ever use flea product intended for dogs on cats. You will likely not get the dosage right, and depending on the brand, it could really make your cat very sick.
