Aetna and Blue Cross Dropping some Medicare Advantage Subscribers

Author: Charles J Bailey

All is not lost when your Medicare Advantage plan terminates your coverage.

Recently, thousands in the Philadelphia area (and other areas) have been notified that their Medicare Advantage plan will terminate as of 12-31-09. While this may be particularly harsh to those on some low premium plans, subscribers in PPO's are finding they may actually be better off.

Depending on you age, and where you live, Medicare Advantage PPO subscribers are finding that a Medicare Supplement plan, also called "Medigap" may be comparable in price, have no co-pays, no doctor networks, and better out of network coverage than they had on their PPO. Many are actually saving money when combined with the proper Medicare prescription drug plan.

While it's not true in every case most people we've talk to have been satisfied if not thrilled at the outcome. We highly recommend calling the Senior Advisors Group for help and more details. They operate in 9 states with more state getting added to accommodate terminated Medicare Advantage subscribers around the country. And, since they offer all the top Medicare supplement providers they almost always have the lowest cost Medicare Supplement plan available (within a few dollars) in every state. They have also indicated that a new - major - Medicare Supplement provider has filled to offer Medicare Supplemental Insurance plans in 32 states. The new provider should be available within a few weeks and I'm told it will be a well recognized brand providing enrollees with Medigap insurance at - or near - the low end of Medicare supplement premiums offered in each area.  So, with all the stress over terminated Medicare advantage plans, there may be a silver lining, and change in your pocket.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
I already have a Blue Advantage health care plan from Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC, how can I open a HSA?
My wife and I are interested in opening a health savings account in conjunction with our Blue advantage high deductible plan. I was told at signup that this was included, but cannot find information anywhere. Does anyone know how I can sign up for a HSA?

    • ANSWER:
You have to sign up separately for the actual HSA. It's offered by most banks and investment companies.

I opened my HSA about 4-years ago. At that time, my broker found a low-cost HSA through American Chartered Bank in IL. When I set it up there was only a fee.
      http://www.americanchartered.com/

You don't have to be anywhere near the bank. I'm in Calif and do all my transactions via snail male.

  2. QUESTION:
What is the health insurance BLUE ADVANTAGE also known as?
Blue card, blue select, blue elect? There are so many...is Blue Advantage a division of anything else? Thanks

    • ANSWER:
Blue Advantage is a traditional PPO plan offered by Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

  3. QUESTION:
Are eye color and skin color controlled by separate genes? Is there any evolutionary advantage for blue eyes?
Generally we see dark eyes in people with dark skin. But I have seen some notable exceptions. I have also seen pale skin and very dark eyes. Evolutionarily, I know why light skin is an advantage in some climates, but how about light eyes?
pale skin helps in creating vitamin D in climates where there isn't a lot of sunshine.

    • ANSWER:
The first thing that you must know is that most traits are controlled by multiple genes, like skin colour, and probably, eye colour too. Secondly, any two genes, or groups of genes, in this case, may be linked; that is, they are found on the same chromosome, and sometimes, the physical distance is so small that thay can, in fact, be considered as a single entity. Another thing is that there may be interactions between genes, for example, epistasis, thus one would affect expression of the other, though i don't think that genes for eye colour and skin colour are epistatic.

But, like you said, dark skin offers protection in certain climates, so do eyes. In climates with plenty of sunlight, more melanin would be required in the iris to protect the retina from damage by excessive light, therefore, in this case, dark eyes would be at an evolutionary advantage.
On the other hand in places with very little sunlight, pale eyes would be at an advantage.

  4. QUESTION:
Does the insurance blue advantage cover the mirena procedure?
I'm suppose to get the mirena procedure Monday and i've tried calling my insurance and my dr and I can't figure it out. Help please?

    • ANSWER:
You can easily check your minimal health care rates in internet, for example here - health-quotes.talk4fun.net

  5. QUESTION:
what is the advantage of blue ray and what is it in a laptop?
I am getting a laptop what would a good one be for just normal home everyday use
    and surfing

    • ANSWER:
The benefit of using a blue-violet laser (405nm) is that it has a shorter wavelength than a red laser (650nm), which makes it possible to focus the laser spot with even greater precision. This allows data to be packed more tightly and stored in less space, so it's possible to fit more data on the disc even though it's the same size as a CD/DVD. This together with the change of numerical aperture to 0.85 is what enables Blu-ray Discs to hold 25GB/50GB.

Hyaluronic Acid Collagen - Why It Matters and How You Can Use It To Your Advantage

Author: Rebecca S. Purple

Hyaluronic acid and collagen is one of the main culprits behind skin aging. The average person has around 15-16 grams of hyaluronic acid in their body, and about 30% of this is lost and replaced on a daily basis.

Hyaluronic acid attracts and keeps water in one place. This is what helps your skin look less wrinkled and reduces those deep forehead lines. With that said, it is vital to enhance your skin elasticity, promote healthier skin, better skin tone and increase hydration.

Americans spend billions upon billions of dollars on cosmetic surgery in hopes of looking better, but all these things do not last. They sometimes might damage you permanently and the pain after surgery is not worth it in my opinion.

There are better ways to improve your skin naturally. It will be cheaper and more beneficial for your body. It is a lot more important to accept who you are and improve from there.

Many people who have undergone cosmetic surgery are still not happy after their procedure, that's why most keep coming back just wanting to improve that one little thing, and then they're happy. I'm sorry to say this but it just ain't happening for most people.

As you age your hyaluronic acid and collagen levels decrease and this is one of the main reasons why your skin starts to sag and look older.

So how can you use this information to your advantage? The best way you can do it is to use a good natural skin care product, and it is important to know that you do not just want to go out and look at products that contain these ingredients and say that this is all you need.

The truth is that you body cannot directly absorb something like collagen, which is a protein, therefore you need a skin care product that will promote the production of hyaluronic acid and collagen in your body.

If you're interested in what products I use that do exactly this, visit my website today.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What's the difference between the "orange" and the "purple" box of Advantage for cats for flea control?

    • ANSWER:
It's size - orange is for cats 9 pounds and under, purple for 9 pounds and over.

  2. QUESTION:
okay so if i do not get my advantage from australia, where online can i get 18 purple, for a reasonable price
i don't think ebay is so good cause i have heard their stuff is expired, also i live in oregon usa and the closest big city is the capital salem, ore i will be going up their on the 20th, so is their a big pet place, anyone know of some or at least the names so i can look them up too. thanks

    • ANSWER:
Hi there again Julia... Anything purchased overseas or on eBay has to be suspect so illegit manufacturers take advantage of this so you can buy the knock-off phony product. You can try contacting 1-800 Pet Meds and see what they require to get some of the flea products. Here's their website so you can look up the prices too of both Frontline and Advantage: http://www.1800petmeds.com/

Here's another idea...try posting an ad on Craigslist Salem to see if anyone has some Advantage or Frontline for cats (not dogs as they are not the same dosing requirements). The online classified is free to use and post ads there. Here's the direct link to Craigslist Salem: http://salem.craigslist.org/pet/

  3. QUESTION:
Obama has only won red states, besides Illinois, and won one purple state, missouri, how does this give him an
advantage? Hillary's won purple states (florida, ohio, new mexico, arkansas) as well as all the big blue states.

    • ANSWER:
      The solution will be:
      Hillary with Obama as VP.
      Looks more and more likely:

  4. QUESTION:
What is the difference between Advantage and Advantage 18 flea medicine for cats?
Both are in purple packages and say for over 9 pounds.

    • ANSWER:
Did you buy them from a reputable source? There are lots of counterfeits out there. There's Advantage 9 in an orange package and Advantage 18 in the purple package. That's it. If you got a free sample it may not have the 18 on it.

PS - I was snooping around and it looks like they may have changed the packaging. The purple is still over 9 pounds, the orange is still 9 pounds or less, but no numbers as part of the name. If in doubt, call the manufacturer and ask.

  5. QUESTION:
Am I less of a man for wearing a purple polo shirt?
I get enough flack at the office for being a vegetarian and straight edge, not many of the guys there can relate to me. Just last week however, things really got out of hand when I showed up wearing a purple polo shirt.

As soon as I walked in the door, the guys in accounting started making fun of me. Why is something like that such a big deal to these neanderthals? They basically called me queer, which I'm not, and later they put Kotex maxi pads all over my cubicle when I went out to lunch.

My question is, how do I get back at these guys? I do have a bit of dirt on them. They frequent strip clubs and I believe they make use of a local escort agency. I was thinking about telling their wives at the next work event that they might be cheating. Plus, one of their daughters is turning 18 this month, I was thinking about taking advantage of that and inviting her with me to Hawaii in August.

    • ANSWER:
Wow your a vengeful homo. Yes a purple shirt is queer so is pink ur not Donald Trump. Do yourself a favor and get a steak and wash it down with a beer. Dont expose those dudes secrets thats breaking the guy code and your already suspect. Keep it real with yourself. Stop following fads to be different just be yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Anybody have some home remedies for cats with fleas?
My cat is got fleas i have done everything i know to do shampooed, the carpet stuff, the one spot stuff. Its not he high price stuff, maybe I need to know what woks best. I really cant afford to take to vet right now. I wll if i have to though.

    • ANSWER:
I currently work for the SPCA. We offer just about everything under the sun at low cost. I would definently look around and find a local SPCA near you. First, flea preventatives such as shampoos, sprays and collars are a HUGE waste of money. Shampoo's are temporary and only kill the fleas that would be "currently" on him/her. Flea sprays can actually be toxic to your cat because felines clean themselves, they will lick the chemicals off them which can, like I said, be toxic to them and they can develop ulcers on their tounges. Flea collars generally only help with the area around the neck and over time the collar will "wear off" and not work. Especially the brand Hartz. Hartz flea preventatives should be pulled off the shelves, they are knows for selling flea preventative products that do more harm to animals than good. The best flea preventative (for example) is Advantage, which is applied to the back of the neck monthly, I use it and I have had absolutely no complaints. Also, depending on where you are applying the flea preventative might be the cause on why it is not working. Whenever applying flea preventative, especially on felines, always apply it to the back of the neck, right above the shoulder blades, so they cant lick it off them. Always bathe your pet before you apply the flea preventative and make sure he/she is dry, otherwise it wont work. Like I said, try and look around for your local SPCA and see if they have clinics that you could use, they are low cost and will save you TONS of money. I really hope this helps!!! I feel like I just wrote a novel haha. Good luck :)

  2. QUESTION:
Are there any over-the-counter treatments or home remedies for fleas on cats?
I'm willing to go to the vet.

    • ANSWER:
Please, PLEASE DO NOT put garlic in your cat's food. It's poisonous for cats and if you feed garlic, you'll have a lot bigger problem than the fleas to deal with! Just because something is OK for dogs doesn't mean that it's OK for cats.

As for over-the-counter stuff, I'm pretty sure that none of it works very well and some of the products have even been known to do harm. The best thing to do is go to the vet and get some Frontline or Advantage. It will kill all the fleas AND the flea eggs and it works pretty quickly. I'm glad you're willing to go to the vet, since that's what you should do.

  3. QUESTION:
Does anybody know any home remedies for fleas on dogs and cats?
I've always used Front Line with success but this year it hasn't worked on my two pugs and cat. I've bought different stuff at the stores also that doesn't work. Thank you!

    • ANSWER:
Try Advantage, or get Revolution from your vet. They have different ingredients than the Frontline.

  4. QUESTION:
Are dog and cat fleas the same - Home remedies for removal of them?
Do dogs get a different type of flea than cats do or are they both the same? What are some good non toxic ways to get rid of them. I have both a dog & a cat. My dog is indoors and my cat is mainly outdoors.. especially during the warm weather. The cat does come in to eat.. but usually goes right back out.

I have spotted a few fleas on my dog. What are some non toxic methods, or brands of flea removal that have been successful for both dogs and cats. I want to keep them at bay before it becomes a real problem. Thanks

    • ANSWER:
garlic works as a natural flea repellent..rub a clove over the dogs and cats on a daily basis as fleas hate the smell..also feeding 1-2 garlic tablets(health shops, tescos etc) in there dinner daily helps kill any infestation on the inside..both methods are safe to use on a daily basis

  5. QUESTION:
Fleas - Home Remedies to remove from Carpet, Dog and Cats.?
I noticed about a week ago that my dog had a few fleas, and I thought I got them all, but then a week later I saw that both of my cats had them...and they all three got baths which showed that they had a bunch of fleas in that short period of time.

Now I need to treat the whole house - carpet, upholstery etc and I don't like to use pesticides in my home. Does anyone know of an alternative that will help the animals as well as the carpet?

H-E-L-P - I do not wish to use harsh chemicals.

    • ANSWER:
The safest and cheapest method of getting rid of fleas is to spray a mixture of boric acid and salt on carpets, bedding and areas frequented by your pets. Boric acid acts as a desiccant and dries out the exoskeleton of the flea, but does not have any side effect on human beings or animals.
